Job Title: Dance Instructor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Dance Instructor to join our team at Crystal Lake Park District. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and teaching dance classes to participants of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality dance classes to meet the needs of participants
  • Work collaboratively with the Cultural Arts Director to develop lesson plans and class syllabi
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to Park District facilities standards
  • Communicate effectively with participants, guardians, and staff members
  • Report any safety or health hazards to the Cultural Arts Director or Safety Specialist
  • Encourage participants to complete program evaluations to ensure quality programs and instructors
  • Act as a positive role model for participants, both in and out of class
  • Submit attendance sheets and program evaluations to the Cultural Arts Director as sessions end
  • Attend training sessions to develop relevant knowledge and skills
  • Promote Park District programs to patrons, members, guests, and staff

Requirements:

  • Dance training and experience working with children ages walking-18
  • Teaching experience is helpful, but not required
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and ability to communicate with people of all ages
  • Flexibility, willingness to try new ideas and activities, and motivation
  • Organizational and punctuality skills
  • Ability to work calmly in life and/or death situations, effectively under stress, and independently

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to walk, sit, talk, and hear frequently
  • May be required to use hands and/or fingers, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms frequently
  • May be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently
  • Must be able to handle average to heavy weight materials, maximum weight 50 pounds, with assistance
  • May be in awkward or difficult positions resulting in physical fatigue
  • Must have specific vision abilities required for this job: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Environmental Considerations:

  • Occasionally exposed to elevated noise levels from participants, sound equipment, maintenance equipment, and/or power tools
  • May be exposed to dust, pollens, molds, insects, etc.
  • May be exposed to varied weather conditions when classes are held outdoors

Cognitive Considerations:

  • Must be able to communicate with youth and adults of all ages
  • Must use basic math, reading, and writing skills
  • Must follow step-by-step procedures and obtain end results
  • Must exhibit good problem-solving abilities
  • Must project a positive image and neat appearance to participants
  • Must use good safety awareness and judgment

Physical Considerations:

  • Must be able to handle average to heavy weight materials, maximum weight 50 pounds, with assistance
  • May be in awkward or difficult positions resulting in physical fatigue
