Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Worker to join our team at the City of Sarasota. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of our buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of facilities, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
  • Perform semi-skilled repairs on buildings, including minor repairs of masonry, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical work, and carpentry.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of facilities, including heating and cooling systems.
  • Assist with special events and meetings, including setting up and breaking down facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head or designated representative.
Requirements
  • High School or GED.
  • One (1) year of janitorial experience, preferably with some experience in semi-skilled repair work.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
Working Conditions

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity, including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing, and crouching.

Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activity with no effective protection from weather changes. Safety precautions will be taken when handling cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials.

Visual acuity is required to operate equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks. Incumbent is required to hear sufficiently to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment in performance of duties.

Public contact is required, and incumbent must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
