CLASS SUMMARY
Join the dedicated team serving the Spokane community as a Law Enforcement Officer. This role is intended for candidates who have successfully completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct regular patrols in assigned areas, either on foot or in a vehicle equipped with advanced communication systems, to maintain public safety, prevent crime, manage traffic, and enforce relevant regulations.
- Respond to emergency calls and investigate incidents involving accidents, fires, and various offenses; gather evidence, administer first aid, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports.
- Utilize arrest powers and self-defense techniques; enforce traffic laws; operate vehicles under emergency conditions; respond to crime scenes and conduct thorough investigations.
- May be assigned to specialized duties such as managing police desk operations, maintaining criminal records, conducting traffic safety training, and providing public assistance regarding laws and ordinances.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
Police Officer - Certified Requirements
(Candidates must meet all criteria upon application.)
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
- Certifications: Valid WSCJTC BLEA certification at the time of hire.
- Note: Previous law enforcement experience is not mandatory.
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old at the time of application and 21 years old upon appointment; must meet weight standards appropriate for height.
- Physical requirements, including vision and hearing, must comply with state regulations. Successful candidates will undergo a post-offer physical and psychological evaluation.
- All applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be a citizen of the United States.
- A criminal record may disqualify candidates.
All candidates must successfully complete the Physical Ability Test (PAT), which typically includes:
- 300-meter run
- Push-ups
- Sit-ups
- 1.5-mile run/walk
Recruitment for this position remains open until further notice. Candidates must complete the online application, the Training and Experience evaluation (T&E), and the Personal History Statement to be eligible for consideration.
T&E Evaluation Details:
The Training and Experience evaluation will be sent via email after reviewing the applicant's qualifications. Candidates will have two weeks to complete this evaluation, which carries a scoring weight of 100%.

Upon passing the minimum qualifications, candidates will receive a Personal History Statement to complete and submit along with the T&E.
