POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Security Manager, the Hospital Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the well-being and property of all individuals within the healthcare facility. This role involves patrolling the premises to deter fire hazards, theft, and vandalism.

The specialist secures and monitors hospital buildings, addressing the security concerns of staff, patients, and visitors. Participation in performance enhancement initiatives is also expected.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

Experience:

A minimum of two to five (2-5) years of experience in law enforcement, security management, or a related field is necessary. Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.


Certification/Licensure:

Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or a CPI certification is preferred.


Other:
Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal history review, is mandatory. The use or possession of firearms or other weapons is strictly prohibited.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safeguards the life and property of all individuals on hospital grounds.
- De-escalates potentially volatile situations and contacts local law enforcement prior to any physical confrontations.
- Conducts regular patrols of hospital facilities to prevent incidents of fire, theft, and vandalism.
- Diligently reports suspicious activities and investigates accidents, incidents, and criminal occurrences.
- Secures and locks hospital buildings and grounds.
- Responds promptly and effectively to both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Aids hospital personnel in de-escalating tense situations and ensures the safety of staff.
- Controls access to hospital property, ensuring only authorized individuals are permitted entry.
- Assists with inquiries from patients, visitors, and staff.
- Maintains accurate records in daily activity logs, incident reports, and lost and found documentation.
- Participates as a member of the emergency response team and responds appropriately to codes.
- Reports safety and fire hazards, investigates unusual incidents, and informs supervisors of all occurrences.
- Supports fire/life safety and emergency management drills and educational programs.
- Completes incident reports accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to investigative protocols.
- Must be capable of responding quickly to all areas of the hospital.
- Successfully completes orientation and ongoing mandatory training requirements in a timely manner.

- Manages access control at various entrances, ensuring all individuals entering are authorized for business or service purposes.

- Assists in the operation of security systems, including CCTV, access control, and incident reporting.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Fosters a positive and cooperative working relationship with physicians, staff, and vendors.

- In the event of an emergency situation (such as severe weather or other crises), senior management may require security personnel to remain on-site to ensure patient safety and uninterrupted hospital operations.

- Remains vigilant at all times, alerting staff, patients, and others to potential threats or situations requiring immediate attention.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of public safety and security protocols is preferred.
- Ability to obtain state-required security officer credentials as necessary.
- Capable of performing duties independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Basic computer skills are required; experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high-stress situations.
- Capacity to display mental and emotional resilience in challenging circumstances.
- Must exhibit honesty, alertness, and discipline.
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Participation in performance improvement initiatives is encouraged.
