Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team at Hendricks County Government. As a key member of our Facilities Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all physical aspects of buildings and grounds, including plumbing, electrical systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, roofs, and structural systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including light construction and/or remodeling projects, and maintain equipment, tools, and supplies as needed.
  • Use the departmental work order notification system to schedule and perform repairs and maintenance tasks requested by other County personnel and approved by Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with contractors to perform special projects and/or other special duties as assigned.
  • Order materials and supplies as needed with approval of Supervisor.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways and parking lots at designated County buildings.
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • May be required to adjust weekly schedule to combine weekday and weekend work times to complete assigned tasks as needed.
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted construction and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and follow general work schedules and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate work quality and progress of work in addition to providing advice and acting as liaison with contractors and vendors.
  • Ability to use tact and maintain cooperation with citizens, other County personnel, and contracting organizations.
  • Knowledge of IOSHA and Indiana Department of Labor safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to repair plumbing, electrical systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, roofs, and structural systems involved in maintaining buildings.
  • Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and related technical information and instructions.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment and tools such as saws, wrenches, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, drills, testing equipment, cutting tools, welding tools, etc.
  • Ability to properly paint, stain, and refinish wood and metal surfaces.
  • General carpentry knowledge including rough carpentry, wall construction and repair, drywall installation, etc.
  • Ability to use personal computers and related equipment including Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license.
Working Relationships

Working relationships are with supervisor and other County personnel, contractors and vendors, and limited contact with the general public. Incumbent must have the ability to use tact and discretion to maintain good relationships with citizens, County personnel, and contractors and vendors.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and talk and hear. May be required to work in awkward positions.
  • Caution is required when using power tools and performing tasks involving height.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move greater than 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Performance of outside work may be required in inclement weather.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud.
