Senior Assistant Librarian

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Science Librarian to join our team at San Jose State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert library services and support to students, faculty, and staff in the science disciplines.
Key Responsibilities- Information Literacy Instruction: Collaborate with science faculty to develop and deliver information literacy instruction to undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Reference and Research Support: Provide reference and research support to students, faculty, and staff in synchronous and asynchronous formats.
- Collection Development: Engage in the selection and evaluation of print and digital resources that support the curricular and research needs of faculty and students.
- User-Centered Services: Create, implement, and assess user-centered library services and programs.
- Shared Governance: Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
- Scholarly and Professional Achievement: Build a record of progressive scholarly and professional achievement to fulfill the University requirement of retention, tenure, and promotion.
- Master's Degree: Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent international degree by the time of hire.
- Coursework and/or Experience: Coursework and/or experience in delivering information literacy instruction and reference service.
- Professional and Scholarly Activity: Demonstrated ability to engage in professional and scholarly activity to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural Competence: Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree: Undergraduate or graduate degree or equivalent training/work experience in a science field, such as chemistry or biological sciences.
- Familiarity with STEM Trends: Familiarity with current and emerging trends in STEM research, publishing, or education.
- Academic Library Experience: Experience in academic libraries.
- Commitment to Diversity: Demonstrated commitment to promoting underrepresented voices in STEM.
