Juvenile Detention Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team at Navajo County, AZ. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our facilities, as well as providing care and support to detainees.
Key Responsibilities- Security and Safety: Maintain the safety and security of staff, detainees, visitors, and facilities; supervise detainee activities and maintain discipline; physically restrain uncooperative or disruptive detainees and take steps to prevent fights, assaults, riots, and escapes.
- Care and Support: Provide care for detainees; dispense and oversee meals; provide security for nursing staff who administer medications and oversee detainee hygiene and showers; schedule medical, counseling, personal, and other appointments, and conduct visiting sessions.
- Booking and Release: Conduct booking and release of detainees; search detainees; collect and inventory property; complete fingerprints and photos; complete booking forms; return property and notify victims upon release.
- Classification and Housing: Interview and classify new detainees; research and assess criminal history and capabilities; assess compatibility of each new detainee with others in the facility and assign cells; re-classify and re-arrange housing as required by detainee behavior.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency and non-emergency radio calls; interrogate and communicate with victims, witnesses, and suspects in incidents; identify and collect evidence; complete detailed reports and required paperwork.
- Training and Education: Identify, attend, and conduct training and educational programs and seminars.
- Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Training: Successful completion of Juvenile Detention Officer Academy.
- Experience: Must be at least 21 years of age; must be able to successfully pass polygraph, drug test, fingerprinting, physical, and psychological tests.
- Skills: Effective communication verbally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
