About the Position

The Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Deaf Mentor to join their team in the Fort Myers area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide American Sign Language (ASL) instruction and deaf culture guidance to individuals of all ages, focusing on community engagement and empowerment.
  • Develop lesson plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of clients, incorporating bilingual, bicultural teaching methods.
  • Collaborate with school districts to deliver ASL models for parents and children, promoting inclusive education and family support.
  • Offer vocational training and independent living skills through online classes, addressing critical life needs.
  • Facilitate connections between the Deaf Community and local organizations, fostering a sense of belonging and accessibility.
  • BUILD STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH CLIENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS TO ENSURE EFFECTIVE PROGRAM EXECUTION AND CONTINUED GROWTH.
  • Participate in program development, proposing innovative ideas to enhance the Deaf Mentor Program's impact and reach.

Requirements:

  • Must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess strong knowledge of Deaf culture.
  • Able to work effectively in a dynamic environment, prioritizing tasks, and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ensuring seamless collaboration with colleagues, clients, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Background check required due to the nature of the position.
