Job Summary:The Registered Nurse-Acute (Surgical Services) functions as a vital member of the healthcare team by demonstrating a customer/patient focus, effective communication, professionalism, self-development, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient care.
- Work independently within scope of practice to provide safe, optimal patient care.
- Promote a positive work environment and support and/or lead change initiatives within the department and organization to achieve effective collaboration and communication.
- Perform specialized or department-specific nursing functions as educationally prepared to provide safe and efficient patient care.
- Complete documentation required for patient care in an accurate, concise, and timely manner.
- Assess and address patient education needs to promote patient self-management upon discharge.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, staff, physicians, and employees of other agencies to create a positive customer service atmosphere.
- Demonstrate positive problem-solving and conflict resolution at intradepartmental and interdepartmental levels to promote effective communication with staff members.
- Maintain awareness of current quality and safety measures on the unit and follow guidelines or reporting measures to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
- Provide appropriate support to team members assigned to the patient and delegate responsibilities to team members within their scope of practice and competency level to address the needs of the patient in an efficient and patient-centric manner.
- Collaborate with other staff to organize the daily workload, prioritize care, and respond to patient crises and emergencies to assure quality patient care and improvement in the care processes.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures and individualize them to meet patient needs to maintain compliance with organizational, state, and federal policy and to maintain patient satisfaction.
- Diploma or degree in nursing.
- Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of employment.
