Cardiac Sonographer

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing all cardiac imaging, including adult, pediatric, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams, and to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Verify proper clinician order for procedure
- Obtain complete clinical history and gather examination data
- Assess for contraindicating conditions and follow established procedures for the administration of ultrasound enhancing agents
- Ensure that all studies have proper patient identification and review ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results
- Release patients and assist other team members in all modalities as needed
- Observe patient condition and evaluate situations when physician intervention is necessary
- Verify correct identity of patient using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing a procedure
- Ensure patient's privacy and comfort is accommodated and maintain patients dignity throughout the exam/procedure
- Organize schedule, time and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames
- Follow physicians instructions when assisting with procedures and exams
- Use critical thinking skills and dialog with patient/family
- Ask clarifying questions and seek clarification on ambiguous orders
- Understand, demonstrate and document preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate
- Prep the patient for the procedure and provide patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures
- Required documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology
- Reads email each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignment
- Completes mandatory departmental and Hospital-wide education without prompting
- High School Diploma or GED
- Registered Medical Sonographer or Reg Cardiac Sonographer - CCI or Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
- Minimum 1 year experience in echocardiography or graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to function independently and under pressure
- Ability to prioritize appropriately
- Detail oriented and able to multitask
- Ability to interact professionally with a variety of customers
- Flexible with work hours to meet department needs
- Dependable, accountable and cooperative
