Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
  • Measure lung capacity of patients to determine if there is impaired function.
  • Administer treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing.
  • Assume primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments.
  • Provide safe and effective patient care addressing age-specific variations related to clinical, educational, psychosocial, and cultural needs of the patient.
  • Communicate patient care plans effectively with all involved team members.
  • Recognize emergency situations and intervene appropriately.
  • Assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders.
  • Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
  • Measure lung capacity of patients to determine if there is impaired function.
