Position Overview:
The role of the Maintenance Mechanic is crucial in ensuring the operational efficiency of our production facilities. At Smithfield Foods, we pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative work environment where team members can thrive and contribute to our success.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Maintenance Mechanic, your primary duties will include:
- Completing all assigned preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensuring that production lines are functioning optimally.
- Assisting other departments, such as Production and Quality, as required.
- Adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety protocols.
- Setting up, inspecting, and testing machinery and equipment.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
- Dismantling defective machinery and installing new or repaired components.
- Maintaining the physical structure of the facility.
- Following all ISO 14001 procedures.
- Performing additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A high school diploma or GED, with at least 1 year of relevant experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing, or 4 years of direct experience in a similar environment.
- A vocational or technical diploma in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
- The ability to work effectively in a team setting and communicate with all levels of personnel.
- Experience operating powered industrial trucks, such as forklifts and scissor lifts.
- Strong comprehension of oral and written instructions, along with the ability to read and execute work orders and equipment manuals.
Work Environment:
The work environment may include:
- Exposure to varying temperatures and humidity levels.
- Working near moving mechanical parts and potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- A moderate to loud noise level in production areas.
- Physical demands including lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds regularly.
