Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair
  • Provide technical support for all phases of the operation
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to identify and resolve issues
  • Disassemble and reassemble mechanical equipment, replacing faulty or worn parts as needed
  • Test and verify the proper functioning of equipment and systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment
  • Install new equipment and appliances, including running electrical, water, gas, and drain lines as required
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED; associate technical maintenance or vocational school degree a plus
  • At least 4+ years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, preferably in a food manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and write fluently in English to communicate and understand technical/training manuals
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment and physical demands of this role include:

  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Frequently required to stand, sit, and use hands and fingers to handle and feel
  • Occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
