Job Title: Engineering Technician 1-4

Join the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) as an Engineering Technician 1-4 and contribute to the development and maintenance of the state's transportation infrastructure.

Job Summary:

The Engineering Technician 1-4 will assist the Engineering Technician 7 with various tasks and activities involved with the Project Engineer's Office. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring high-quality construction work in accordance with plans, specifications, and contract provisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs sub-professional engineering work in the area of construction inspection and surveying to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Prepares daily diaries, weekly reports, field book record keeping, quantities for plan changes, verifies partial and final estimates, 2059 reports, errors and omissions reports, storm water inspection reports, and project finalizations.
  • Collects and records the testing/sampling of material used on construction projects and certifies acceptable results.
  • Monitors and inspects work done by contractors for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Computes and/or checks construction quantities including, but not limited to, earthwork, field book accuracy, benchmark verification, survey data, and other required data necessary to ensure it meets the requirements of the contract special provisions, plans, and other standard specifications.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.
Working Conditions:

The Engineering Technician 1-4 may be required to perform duties in extreme conditions, such as rain, cold, and/or heat. May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or some holidays. Must possess a Class E Louisiana Driver's license. May be required to lift and carry items up to 45 pounds.
