About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Prototyping Lab Specialist to join our team at the University of California, Irvine. As a key member of our Beall Applied Innovation team, you will be responsible for designing, constructing, and implementing the BAI Prototyping Lab Space, including overseeing and managing the development and layout of the facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement laboratory facilities, including the development and layout of the Prototyping Lab Space.
  • Oversee and manage the construction and implementation of the laboratory facilities.
  • Provide technical support and advice to users of the laboratory facilities.
  • Lead troubleshooting of instruments and solving design issues.
  • Develop detailed laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Represent Beall Applied Innovation at informational sessions, campuswide committees, and other higher education institutions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
  • Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies, and procedures.
  • Skills to work under pressure of deadlines in a stressful environment.
  • Active listening, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve questions, concerns, issues, or problems.
  • Skills to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience with hydraulic, high-pressure gas, mechanical, and electrical laboratory equipment systems.
  • Ability to maintain and repair laboratory equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in experimental test laboratories, ordering supplies, purchasing equipment, and communicating with vendors.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, facilities planning, and/or laboratory safety.
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical design and chemistry labs.
  • Ability to read and interpret chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
