PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Lead Systems Engineer role is a senior technical position within our IT department. This role demands extensive experience in information technology, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work autonomously, mentor others, and collaborate effectively within a team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate self-motivation and possess the skills necessary to provide technical insights that drive the design, implementation, and optimization of intricate systems, guided by a Principal Engineer or Manager. This position collaborates with IT architecture to define strategic objectives and partners with various teams to implement high-quality systems that fulfill business requirements. Responsibilities include delivering and supporting IT infrastructure, product, and platform solutions, as well as designing and executing complex IT system initiatives, encompassing cloud, non-cloud, and hybrid-cloud environments. The role also involves influencing other IT teams, leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors, and project/design teams in all aspects of secure and reliable application hosting across Exelon's extensive enterprise and real-time operational environments.
Build and Deployment Responsibilities:
- Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively address build challenges.
- Utilize effective communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders, including business, intake, and development teams, to comprehend requirements and produce quality functional automations within established timelines.
- Oversee and execute the build and deployment processes for automation projects.
- Work in tandem with development teams to understand business application configurations and dependencies.
- Implement best practices for maintaining version control of automation artifacts and code standards.
- Ensure adherence to version control best practices.
- Develop and sustain automation scripts for build and deployment processes.
- Collaborate closely with development teams to understand release requirements.
- Coordinate and manage the release process, ensuring successful deployment of automation solutions.
- Possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve build and deployment-related issues.
- Prepare comprehensive build and deployment documentation for code releases.
- Maintain build and deployment documentation to support automation enhancements.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing CI/CD pipelines for automation deployments.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Facilitate discussions with business partners and vendors to gather critical information. Collaborate with leadership, architecture, project teams, and end users to identify system requirements and conduct feasibility analyses for potential changes related to existing and future security and technical architectures. Produce and disseminate system specifications, logical and physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans. Deliver practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that meet business needs, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, optimization, and supporting metrics. (30%)
- Collaborate with others to develop future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules. Create and present to Engineering and Architecture Review Boards. Maintain a deep understanding of current technologies and service offerings within the industry. Provide oversight for less experienced engineers. (25%)
- Design, support, and maintain custom system integrations with other platforms, tailored to customer needs. Stay informed about current and emerging IT systems technologies. (20%)
- Identify and document all risks and issues, ensuring they are captured and addressed appropriately. Provide supporting data to leadership and peers. (15%)
- Maintain knowledge of and compliance with preferred technologies, methodologies, standards, and policies. Enhance technical knowledge and business acumen within your discipline or function. Demonstrate strong debugging and problem-solving skills; participate in peer code reviews. (10%)
