Key Responsibilities- Maintenance and Repair: Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on company locomotives in a cost-effective manner, including Gen-Set, SW, and GP locomotives.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and fix mechanical and electrical problems with locomotives.
- Record Keeping: Maintain proper records, including preventative maintenance sheets, invoices, shipping documents, and expense reports.
- Environmental Compliance: Handle environmental issues in an appropriate manner, including proper disposal of filter oil, diesel fuel, and other materials.
- Safety and Compliance: Comply with company safety policies and procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and conduct periodic safety assessments on equipment.
- Administrative and Engineering Controls: Suggest and implement administrative or engineering controls to abate or minimize safety hazards, requiring appropriate approvals.
- Education and Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mechanical and Electrical Experience: Must have mechanical experience, electrical experience preferred.
- Driver's License: Must have a valid Driver's license.
- Operational Skills: Must be able to operate a cutting torch and electrical welder.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with the typical problems that occur in rail car switching.
