About the Role

Columbia-Greene Community College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Writing and Communications Center Associate. This is a full-time role that requires a strong background in writing, communications, and education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions with students to assess their writing and communication skills.
  • Provide individualized feedback and guidance to help students improve their writing clarity, organization, style, and grammar.
  • Assist students with cross-disciplinary writing and reading assignments and integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
  • Assist students in developing effective communication strategies for various academic and professional contexts, including essays, presentations, and job applications.
  • Plan and deliver workshops and seminars on writing and communication-related topics, such as academic writing conventions, public speaking, and professional correspondence.
  • Develop instructional materials, handouts, and resources to support workshop sessions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate writing and communication skills into the curriculum across disciplines.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of The Writing Center, including scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and coordinating staffing.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise peer tutors to provide additional support to students seeking assistance with writing and communication skills.
  • Stay informed about best practices in writing center pedagogy and implement innovative strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Provide digital literacy support to students, through individual sessions and workshops, contributing to the integration and use of technology for academic and career success.
  • Collaborate with others to provide individual and/or group advising to meet the personal, social, emotional, and academic needs of new and continuing students.
  • Provide technical support of the hardware and software needed to administer testing needs (e.g., placement testing, pre-Nursing testing) and any other computerized testing services.
  • Manage laptop and calculator loan program.
  • Attend college-sponsored events and programs (e.g., open house, orientations, commencement) to represent the Student Success Center and Department of Student Affairs.
  • Participate in College committees, as needed.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in English, Communication, Education, or related field; with three (3) years' experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Technical proficiency in standard office software (MS Office), communication tools (Zoom), and learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills with one-on-one communication (i.e. teaching, coaching, tutoring, mentoring, managing, etc.).
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage administrative tasks.
  • Excellent judgement and respect for confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving/conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to support individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations and projects.
