The Director of Patient Care is tasked with offering and cultivating professional leadership within the nursing organization. This role encompasses the coordination, implementation, administration, and assessment of nursing care provided to patients and their families, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective nursing services while aligning with the objectives of the healthcare facility.

The individual in this role will ensure that the work environment complies with regulatory standards and that departmental practices uphold high-quality benchmarks that support excellence in patient care and safety for all stakeholders.

Additionally, they will be responsible for implementing and maintaining quality standards, ensuring that processes are regularly updated and revised as necessary.

Monitoring metrics to validate performance against national and system benchmarks is essential to guarantee consistent delivery of competent clinical practice.

Responsibilities

1.

Under the guidance of the Vice President of Patient Care, the incumbent will ensure the provision of superior patient care to a designated population, adhering to the standards set by local, state, and national regulatory bodies and professional organizations.

2. Cultivates leadership within the hospital that supports and upholds excellence in evidence-based nursing practices.
3. Integrates and implements the hospital's goals and nursing objectives into their service line(s).
4. Leads quality improvement initiatives and develops action plans for ongoing enhancement.
5. Oversees the fiscal budget, ensuring adherence to established targets while monitoring labor costs, medical supply expenses, and collaborating with purchasing partners for optimal supply contract pricing.
6. Ensures staffing patterns are adjusted according to unit activity and patient acuity.

7.

Manages the annual capital budget, prioritizing equipment needs based on patient unit requirements, physician recruitment efforts, and revenue potential.

8. Fosters an environment conducive to the growth and development of professional nursing.
9.

Establishes a nursing program that attracts top-tier nursing talent and effectively retains staff within the service.

10. Collaborates with management team members, physicians, and other departments to facilitate optimal patient care delivery.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:


*Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing, MBA, or MHA
*Registered Nurse (RN)
*Internal candidates are required to complete Master's program within 3 years

Required Licensure:


*Registered Nurse (RN)

Experience Required:

*Four (4) years of nursing experience in a tertiary acute care hospital and a minimum of five (5) years of management experience at the nurse manager level or above.
*Excellent clinical and operational skills.
*Leadership experience within an academic medical facility

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:
