Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Speech Language Pathologist is tasked with conducting comprehensive patient evaluations, formulating tailored treatment strategies, delivering therapeutic interventions, and tracking patient advancements.

PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Therapy Supervisor and/or Director of Rehabilitation
  • Engages regularly with medical professionals, fellow therapists, nursing staff, and patients

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Evaluating, diagnosing, screening, and preventing disorders related to speech, language, and swallowing.
  2. Collaborating with physicians, therapists, nursing staff, and family members to create effective treatment plans.
  3. Accurately documenting and maintaining clinical and administrative records concerning patient limitations, interventions, treatment responses, and progress, including discharge summaries.
  4. Ensuring patient confidentiality during all record-keeping and treatment sessions.
  5. Completing daily notes and billing accurately and promptly.
  6. Adhering to all applicable federal and state regulations and codes.
  7. Upholding a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  8. Performing additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Background:

  • Graduation from an accredited program in speech language pathology
  • Possession of a current Louisiana State Speech Language Pathology License
  • Certification: CPR certification for Healthcare Providers

Experience:

  • Preferred, but not mandatory

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional customer and patient interaction skills
  • In-depth understanding of speech therapy methodologies and practices
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems
  • Excellent organizational abilities and effective time management skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This role necessitates the ability to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients as needed. It also involves regular bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, along with occasional heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout a standard work shift. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other hospital-related conditions may occur.
