Mechanic II Position

This position is a mid-level role with the ability to become a Mechanic I, emphasizing assistance to Foremen in daily duties. The incumbent will maintain and repair district vehicles as specified by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, with a focus on safety and efficiency. Inspection of vehicles for compliance to regulations, safety guidelines, mechanical performance, and efficient operation is a key responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Diagnose and Repair Diesel and Gasoline Engines
Perform diesel tune-ups, including fuel pump, injector diagnosis, and replacement, as well as set overhead (valves).

Percentage of Time: 20% - Diagnose and Repair Chassis and Body Electrical, Starters, and Charging Systems
Repair and diagnose electrical systems, starters, and charging systems.
Frequency: Daily
Percentage of Time: 10% - Repair Drive Train Systems, 4WD Systems, Differentials, U-Joints, Mount & Dismount, Balance Various Sizes & Types of Tires and Wheels

Percentage of Time: 10% - Diagnose and Repair Light and Heavy-Duty Suspension and Steering Systems

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- Three (3) years Bus mechanic, medium and/or heavy-duty mechanic, or foreman experience
- Must obtain/retain a Commercial Driver's License, Class B with a P Endorsement for school bus within 1-2 years
- Must obtain/retain CPR/First Aid Certificate within 1 year
- Must obtain/retain CDE (Colorado Department of Education) Inspector License within 2 years
- Medium work strength level (lifting or carrying 50 pounds)
- Works both indoors and outdoors
- Typically a loud noise level
- Work location is subject to change to meet the requirements of the organization
