Position Overview:
The Senior Systems Engineering Authority collaborates with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team dedicated to designing and delivering robust, high-performance integrated systems for the U.S. Department of Defense and various clients. This role serves as a key expert in Systems Engineering, defining specifications for sensors, mechanical components, electrical systems, and software/firmware integration. The incumbent will lead the design of subsystems and ensure their seamless integration into the overall system architecture. Additionally, this position will identify and address program support challenges while proposing effective solutions. The ideal candidate will also spearhead the enhancement of engineering processes, focusing on both new and existing product development, project management, and the expansion of overall systems engineering capabilities. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong decision-making skills, adaptability, planning and organizational abilities, initiative, and excellent interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration across teams while promoting the overall success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among all design and engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software.
- Translate customer and business operational requirements into comprehensive system specifications and performance metrics, utilizing analysis, design, testing, and evaluation methodologies.
- Assist Business Development and Sales & Product Management with customer requirement assessments, proposal development, and technical guidance.
- Generate detailed specifications for systems and subsystems.
- Provide comprehensive design and product support to ensure engineering solutions meet established system specifications.
- Engage with other operational teams such as Supply Chain, Customer Service & Support, Quality & Compliance, and Mission Systems.
- Conduct analyses related to cost, reliability, maintainability, testability, survivability, and other quality metrics.
- Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Create verification and validation methodologies, processes, and plans to support program milestones.
- Oversee the technical progress and strategic direction of programs.
- Implement a systematic approach to optimize the completeness of system designs, encompassing hardware, software, facilities, personnel, and support equipment.
- Enhance engineering and business practices to improve design cycles, manufacturing costs, and related support initiatives.
- Envision, manage, and execute engineering modifications.
- Serve as a technical liaison with clients.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred with 12+ years of relevant experience; or Master's Degree/PhD preferred with 8+ years of relevant experience in electro-mechanical and/or software systems.
- Proven ability to design and conduct experiments to identify root causes of complex interdisciplinary technical issues, capable of evaluating alternative solutions and developing practical resolutions.
- Exceptional written communication skills to effectively disseminate timely information to collaborative teams.
- Strong oral communication and presentation abilities; capable of engaging the audience and delivering clear, concise messages during presentations.
- Ability to foster collaboration and teamwork to build successful working relationships across product teams and other company divisions.
- Quick learner, adept at mastering new or unfamiliar technologies and products.
- Commitment to continuous learning; able to adopt new approaches, tools, and methodologies to stay ahead of advancements in systems engineering.
- Demonstrated personal initiative and motivation to achieve desired project outcomes that align with organizational goals.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 25% as required.
- US DoD Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with program management/scheduling, EAC / ETC (Estimate to Complete / Estimate at Completion), and earned value analysis.
- Experience with various engineering design tools (e.g., Solidworks, EPDM) is highly desirable.
- Understanding of chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN) sensors and devices, along with related operational mission requirements.
- Knowledge of Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera systems, radar systems, and experience with electro-mechanical systems and controls is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in project management, product development (phase-gate), and New Product Introductions (NPI).
