Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Preferred training with certification in pipelaying.
  • Prior experience in pipelaying is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determines and configures pipe routing.
  • Aligns pipes within pipeline sections.
  • Excavates trenches using trenching tools.
  • Places pipes into excavated trenches.
  • Removes and replaces defective or misaligned pipes.
  • Inspects joints for proper alignment and spacing.
  • Lays pipes for stormwater and sanitation systems as well as pressure pipelines.
  • Grades trenches or culverts as necessary.
  • Seals pipe joints effectively.
  • Utilizes adhesives or welding equipment to ensure secure fittings.
  • Covers installed pipes with soil or other materials.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of pipelaying techniques.
  • Familiarity with pipelayer hand signals.
  • Proficient in operating various pipelaying equipment.
  • Ability to interpret construction blueprints.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Capability to follow detailed instructions.

Physical Demands:

  • Extended periods of operating heavy machinery.
  • Willingness to work long hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to operate machinery in challenging weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds regularly.
