Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Construction Inspector to join our team at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As a key member of our infrastructure development team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our transportation infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field inspections of permitted activities to ensure compliance with permit requirements and Department regulations.
  • Oversee various stages of construction work, including verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways.
  • Inspect the installation of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage systems, and other structures.
  • Evaluate work zone traffic control measures and assess backfill materials and their compaction.
  • Oversee highway restoration efforts, including roadway pavements and shoulders, and prioritize public safety throughout the process.
  • Perform compaction testing using visual non-movement methods on sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates.
  • Engage with Department personnel, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to facilitate the effective management and administration of projects.
Requirements
  • One year of experience as an Engineering Technician or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, including reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics or equivalent.
  • One year of construction inspection experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
