Civil Engineer Trainee Job Description

This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals to develop their skills and knowledge in civil engineering. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will participate in a 12-month training program designed to develop practical proficiency in bridge engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulic engineering, or general civil engineering. The program includes rotations at the District Office, Field Operations, and Central Office in Harrisburg. You will perform civil engineering assignments to develop engineering skills and achieve working knowledge of all phases of PennDOT operations. These assignments may include conducting preliminary engineering studies, analyzing field conditions, inspecting construction and maintenance projects, drafting geo-technical reports, preparing or reviewing designs for highway or bridge projects, conducting bridge safety inspections, analyzing traffic patterns, preparing recommendations to address traffic safety issues, conducting the testing of materials, and assisting in other related duties as required for the training phase.

Requirements and Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

This is a full-time employment position with a work schedule of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. Limited telework eligibility during probationary period, teleworking will be on an ad hoc basis.

Salary

Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,861 (before taxes). This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension. PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
