Position Overview:

Provides direct care to patients in the behavioral health unit in alignment with the established protocols and guidelines of the organization.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Conducts admission and shift evaluations on assigned patients, including behavioral assessments; accurately and within the time-frame established in policies and procedures.
  • Employs critical thinking and judgment to interpret patient assessment data and inform physicians of any changes in condition.
  • Engages in the formulation, review, and assessment of multidisciplinary treatment plans in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Records all nursing interventions and adheres to nursing standards and organizational policies.
  • Consistently and accurately executes and documents physician orders.
  • Monitors patients and the environment for safety within the unit.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and oversees care provided by LPNs and technicians.
  • Educates patients and families based on assessed needs and documents the education provided in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Applies evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring that care is tailored to the patient's age-specific and clinical needs as outlined in the department's Scope of Service.
  • As an SSM Health nurse, I will exemplify the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. Utilizes the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to the evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and populations.
  • Maintains a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program or equivalent education for licensure

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • No prior experience necessary

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Continuous verbal communication to convey information.
  • Regular standing and walking.
