Job Summary:

The Community Health Worker (CHW) plays a vital role in improving the health and well-being of University Hospital patients. * Participation in community organizations and first-hand understanding of issues related to interpersonal violence, health disparities, and inner-city communities preferred
* Completion of a Community Health Worker training program a plus
* Sensitivity to a substance abuse environment preferred
* Must be a reliable, active listener with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
* Must have basic understanding of computer software applications and ability to perform basic internet searches
* Must have demonstrated interest in serving the Newark community or similar inner-city community
* Must be able to work independently and seek guidance when necessary, as well as work in a team environment
* Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole preferred
