Job Summary:

The Medical Records Clerk position at Natchitoches Parish Correctional Center is responsible for the accurate and efficient filing and storage of all health records, charts, and films. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate health records for inmates and maintain confidentiality of all medical record information.
  • Maintain health records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Pull and prepare health records for practitioner (medical, dental, and mental health) sick call, chronic care clinics, and transfers.
  • Maintain all active health records in alphabetical order.
  • Forward diagnostic test results to the appropriate practitioner for review and countersignature.
  • Comply with company rules, directives, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of health services forms and clerical supplies.
  • Review records for completeness and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
  • File loose paperwork and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Communicate difficulties in providing records upon request to supervisors.
  • Retrieve records from the clinic periodically throughout the shift.
  • Integrate records from previous incarcerations, Infirmary, and Mental Health records in current records when applicable.
  • Research intakes from previous shifts and copy and mail records in response to authorized releases/requests.
  • Pull all records and corresponding labs for inmate worker medical clearances and file a copy of the clearance in the record.
  • Pull all records for administrative review for corresponding grievances and file a copy of the grievance in the record.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years' experience in a correctional or medical setting is desirable.
  • C.N.A., E.M.T., C.M.A., or Medical Assistant preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Continuous sitting per shift.
  • Continuous periods of walking and standing per shift.
  • Occasional climbing stairs per shift.
  • Remaining awake and alert while on duty per shift.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs periodically and lifting up to lbs rarely.
  • Frequently working on computers/tablets throughout the shift.
  • Frequent grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.
