Role Overview As the Supply Chain Coordinator at our manufacturing facility in Kansas City, MO, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of production components and schedules, monitoring supplier delivery performance, and ensuring effective inventory management for Utilimaster (A Shyft Brand).
Your focus will be on leveraging established processes such as demand forecasting, inventory and supplier management, material requirement planning, and continuous improvement to guarantee the seamless flow of materials from suppliers to delivery.
You will play a crucial role in maintaining an adequate supply of materials throughout our operations and directing the activities related to production materials flow and inventory control.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing assigned components and suppliers, addressing all issues that arise
- Enhancing supplier relationships to improve delivery performance and inventory management
- Coordinating engineering modifications and production schedules with suppliers and internal teams
- Striving for customer satisfaction while minimizing excess inventory
- Reviewing MRP daily and weekly to generate supplier releases
- Initiating, scheduling, deferring, expediting, and canceling purchase orders to maintain optimal inventory levels
- Updating supplier lead times to ensure system accuracy
- Communicating delivery expectations and material quantities to suppliers through reports
- Proactively confirming delivery schedules against purchase orders and making adjustments as necessary
- Compiling shortage reports and tracking delivery schedules
- Securing realistic delivery dates for shortages and following up promptly
- Identifying potential production disruptions by recognizing parts shortages in advance
- Assisting with packaging initiatives by implementing returnable packaging programs
- Monitoring and managing freight and logistics expenses
- Processing material requisitions for materials, repairs, equipment, and special engineering projects
- Analyzing root causes of missed deliveries
- Enhancing inventory accuracy using VMI, Kanban cards, or Min/Max systems
- Collaborating with Purchasing, Operations, Finance, and vendors to determine appropriate inventory levels, order requirements, and delivery adjustments
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or business, or equivalent experience in materials planning within a manufacturing environment
- A minimum of three (3) years of material planning experience in a manufacturing context
- Proven ability to build and lead cross-functional teams
- Recognized for being adaptable, detail-oriented, and responsive to changing priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
