This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating learning and development programs that enhance associates' performance, promote professional development, and support the mission, vision, and values of MedStar Health and the Department of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to Department Goals and Objectives: Collaborate with department leaders to achieve established goals and objectives, adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
  • Teaching and Coaching: Apply teaching techniques that promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and decision making, incorporating principles of adult learning theory. Coach nurses and other associates to enhance professional nursing practice and professional advancement.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate with other departments, experts, and leaders to obtain information needed to develop relevant learning programs. Serve as a liaison with academic partners and clinical student placements.
  • Educational Activities: Conduct educational activities that inform, teach, and facilitate adoption of new procedures, technologies, equipment, and patient care trends with continuing education credits where appropriate.
  • Program Planning and Evaluation: Coordinate and plan educational offerings for nursing associates, considering mandatory regulatory requirements, quality and safety, performance improvement, and clinical advancement. Develop evaluation plans and apply evidence-based evaluation systems to determine the effectiveness of educational activities and learning programs.
  • Learning Needs Assessment: Identify and assess learning needs and knowledge or skill gaps that require remediation, collaborating with unit leaders to promote critical thinking and competent patient care delivery.
  • Professional Development: Maintain knowledge of professional development standards, available evidence, and current trends and innovations in nursing practice, clinical instruction, nursing education, staff development, and use of simulation and learning technologies. Pursue ongoing learning and educational opportunities to enhance own practice, knowledge, skills, and competencies.
  • Orientation and Competency Validation: Plan and conduct orientation of new personnel to facilitate a new associate's transition to the practice environment and meeting competency assessment requirements. Plan and regularly conduct competency validation programs for nursing department associates.
  • Quality and Service Improvement: Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participate in meetings, serve on committees, and represent the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in Clinical Nursing, Nursing Education, or related field.
  • Experience: 3-4 years of progressive clinical nursing experience, with staff development or continuing education experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure. Valid RN license in the State of Maryland.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrated high level of clinical competence, effective interpersonal skills, basic math skills, and basic computer skills.
