ESOL Newcomer Paraeducator

This is a part-time position at Samuel E Spaght Science and Communications Magnet Elementary School. The ESOL Newcomer Paraeducator will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to support the teacher in delivering educational programs to elementary, middle, or high school students.

• Assist students with lessons under direct supervision of the classroom teacher.
• Help students reinforce concepts for individuals or small groups.
• Work with teachers to modify activities to meet individual student needs and develop academic language.
• Perform formal and/or informal assessment activities after training by ESOL or district staff.
• Assist teachers in monitoring, collecting data, and maintaining records regarding student performance and progress.
• Assist in the maintenance of learning areas and/or learning centers and instructional materials.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Paras working in a Title School must have a minimum of 48 accredited college credits verifiable with a transcript or pass a state-approved assessment.
• Demonstrate proficiency and literacy skills in another language (for jobs defined as bilingual only).

This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.

Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
