About the Role

Hall Prangle & Schoonveld, a leading national trial defense law firm, seeks a highly experienced Legal Assistant to join its Carlsbad office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain attorneys' calendars, ensuring timely court appearances, meetings, depositions, and deadlines.
  • Schedule court appearances, client meetings, depositions, and other engagements with minimal conflicts and notify attorneys of pending deadlines.
  • Prepare and file pleadings and other court documents, serving all relevant parties.
  • Serve as an intermediary between attorneys, firm personnel, and the courts, facilitating clear communication.
  • Generate correspondence and manage mail distribution efficiently.
  • Assist with logging and distributing incoming and outgoing mail effectively.
  • Create and maintain client files, records, logs, and related information for case files.
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Legal Assistant within a law firm supporting medical malpractice defense litigation or similar litigation practice areas.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal court functions, jurisdictions, and filing requirements.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suites: Word, Excel, Outlook, Billing Software, and Online Document Management Software.
  • Proficiency in electronic filing procedures for State and Federal Courts, including California Courts.
  • Expertise in using Outlook Calendars for scheduling and maintaining attorneys' busy court schedules efficiently.
  • Experience in creating and managing documents, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, and copying; coordinating case preparation effectively.
  • Experience in tracking billing hours through billing software accurately.
  • Must be highly organized, able to multitask, and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
