The Willis Knighton Health Clinical Research Department is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the WK Cancer Center.

This position offers the selected candidate the opportunity to be part of the latest scientific treatments in oncology and is highly rewarding on both a personal and professional level.

The qualified applicant will be responsible for the oversight, coordination, and interpretation of multiple oncology research studies according to approved protocols.

The incumbent must exercise initiative, be detail-oriented, and meticulous in all aspects of work and be able to make independent decisions with flexibility to adjust to department needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Actively recruiting research participants into clinical trials and developing tailored recruitment strategies.
  • Providing patient education and medical information to study patients to ensure understanding of proper medication dosage, administration, and disease treatments.
  • Assessing patients systematically and utilizing the assessment to plan appropriate nursing care as outlined in the protocol treatment plan and as instructed by the treating physician.
  • Documenting medical data in patient charts to capture protocol requirements.
  • Coordinating appointments and testing with other departments as needed.
  • Adapting to changes required by each project within a structured environment.

Requirements for this position:

  • Unencumbered RN license for the state of Louisiana.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to research unfamiliar terms.
  • Skills and experience to perform basic nursing duties such as vital signs, medical history, reconciling medications, EKG, and phlebotomy.
  • Strong follow-through skills and ability to proactively identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and willingness to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Professional demeanor, strong communication skills with the public, physicians, and coworkers.
Clinical Research and/or Oncology Experience is preferred but not required.
