Staff Pharmacist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Pharmacist to join our team at Arkansas Children's Hospital. As a key member of our pharmacy department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for our patients.
Responsibilities- Verify the appropriateness of all doses in reference to the child's diagnosis, weight, age, and body surface area.
- Identify and intervene when problems involving drug therapy arise, such as allergies, drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, adverse drug reactions, and compatibility.
- Verify the appropriateness of the drug selected, initiate drug therapy when needed, and suggest equally efficacious but less expensive therapy.
- Evaluate the need for all non-formulary drugs.
- Assure that patients receive the ordered medication as to dose, route, salt, regimen, and generic substitution.
- Assure that all medications meet the highest standards in quality and preparation of the final dosage form and that all drug products are neatly prepared and labeled, including the use of appropriate auxiliary labels/comments.
- Process all orders efficiently, correctly establish priorities, and process orders in a timely manner.
- Serve in a professional capacity in patient care areas, monitor patients to assure optimal therapeutic outcomes, and make appropriate recommendations to other healthcare providers.
- Participate in the education and training of patients, technicians, pharmacists, and students, serve as a teacher, and participate in discharge planning.
- Perform drug information activities, process all information requests accurately, efficiently, and complete the documentation. Review patients and assess for compliance with AC criteria concerning food drug interactions and therapeutic drug monitoring. Assist in drug utilization review activities.
- Place orders with local wholesalers for medications and supplies and backorders directly with manufacturers for items in short supply immediately when local wholesalers are unable to supply.
- Assure that substitution items are obtained when original items are unavailable and substitution items are checked by the appropriate manager.
- Notify the Pharmacy manager immediately of any items unavailable at the time of purchase.
- Coordinate loan/borrow processes, recalls, and coordinate annual departmental inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
