FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: Physicians are responsible for delivering comprehensive medical care to patients, addressing a wide range of health concerns from chronic disease management to preventive health strategies. Regardless of their specialty, physicians focus on diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. This involves conducting physical examinations, gathering medical histories, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating treatment plans.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical institution is required, along with successful completion of residency training at a recognized healthcare facility.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION: A valid M.D. or D.O. license from the State of North Carolina is mandatory. Board certification in primary care or a related specialty is required. Additionally, certifications in Basic Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are necessary if stress tests are conducted or as dictated by the specialty. Registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) for prescription authority is also required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the primary healthcare team to deliver essential medical services to patients in accordance with established standards for Internal Medicine.
- Order and interpret laboratory and radiology tests, and refer patients to specialists as necessary.
- Evaluate reports, test results, medical histories, and examinations to accurately diagnose patient conditions and recommend treatment options.
- Prescribe medications and treatment plans to address identified medical issues.
- Discuss potential side effects of prescribed treatments with patients, ensuring all allergy information is current.
- Advise patients on lifestyle and dietary modifications that may enhance their health or assist in managing their medical conditions.
- Comply with departmental policies, quality improvement initiatives, and safety standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all relevant health information privacy regulations.
- Document thorough, timely, and legible medical records.
