Chief of Medical Hematology and Oncology

Ochsner Health is seeking a Division Chief for Medical Hematology and Oncology.
This pivotal position requires a distinguished professional with a robust background in both clinical operations and research endeavors to oversee the medical oncology division. The Division Chief will be responsible for orchestrating and harmonizing essential mission areas within the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and the Cancer Service Line, working in close partnership with the Cancer Center Director to enhance healthcare delivery across the region.
The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership, clinical, and educational capabilities, demonstrating a commitment to fostering outstanding clinical practices, advancing programs, and ensuring smooth coordination across multiple practice sites. The successful applicant will become a faculty member at the LSU Health Shreveport Medical Center, with the level of appointment contingent upon their qualifications and experience. Obtaining a Louisiana medical license, local hospital privileges, and credentialing with insurance providers will be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee physician and clinical operations, focusing on the development of medical oncology programs.
- Engage actively in medical oncology clinics, specializing in disease-specific areas four days a week, while achieving productivity and quality benchmarks adjusted for administrative responsibilities.
- Dedicate to providing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Participate in on-call rotations as required for patient care.
- Contribute to educational activities with fellows, residents, and medical students as part of the hematology/oncology faculty.
- Attend tumor boards as necessary and engage in those for other specialties.
- Promote community outreach to build referral-generating relationships with local physicians, collaborating with a business development liaison to formulate a referral strategy.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must hold board certification in medical oncology/hematology and possess a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the field. Previous administrative experience is essential, ideally complemented by a research background supported by national funding. The ability to motivate and guide a division towards increased research productivity through mentorship and collaboration will be assessed.
