Prairie View A&M University is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for potential future employment as Police Officers (In Training, I, II, III, or IV) at our institution. As a member of our University Police Department, you will play a critical role in creating a safe and inclusive environment for our campus community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide law enforcement services to the campus community, responding to emergencies and calls for assistance
- Interact with the public, providing escorts and assistance as needed
- Work under general supervision, patrolling university property and enforcing laws and regulations
- Investigate crimes and incidents, taking reports and performing preliminary investigations
- Function as a training coordinator and victim assistance coordinator
- Prevent crime, suppress disturbances, and issue citations as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Police Officer in Training:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduated from Police Academy
- Two years of full-time employment
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic licensure
- Police Officer I:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of related experience in law enforcement
- Police Officer II:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of experience as a licensed Police Officer
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic licensure
- Police Officer III:
- High School diploma or GED and the required number of earned college or training hours to meet minimum licensing standard requirements for an Intermediate Peace Officer certification
- Three years of experience as a licensed Police Officer
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Intermediate Peace Officer certification
- Police Officer IV:
- High School diploma or GED and the required number of earned college or training hours to meet minimum licensing standard requirements for an Advanced Peace Officer certification
- Five years of experience as a licensed Police Officer or six years with no college degree
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Advanced Peace Officer certification
- Ability to work shift work
- Ability to pass a firearms qualification
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
- Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population
- Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions
- Certified as a Police Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
- Must have a State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Texas law requires all males age 18 through 25 to be properly registered with the Selective Service System
- Be a US Citizen
- Must be in excellent physical health and stamina
- Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends
- Successful completion of field training program
- Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment
- Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history
- 30 college hours from an accredited college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
