Job Overview

A Communications Technician 2 is responsible for the installation and planning of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have experience installing basic equipment, using hand tools and power tools, and a basic understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints, and knowledge of codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and safe use of hand tools and various power tools
  • Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Following Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Actively participating in daily safety and work briefings
  • Installation of various types of low-voltage cable
  • Installation, inspection, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting of ISP/OSP telecommunications systems
  • Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure
  • Sketching rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations
  • Training and supervising apprentices in a team environment
  • Performing quality assurance checks of team work
  • Maintaining a clean work area and participating in job site clean up
  • Securing company tools and materials daily
  • Up to 25% travel, which may include domestic and/or international
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of prior experience in the commercial communications industry
  • Be 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED is required
  • Must have an excellent safety record, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record
  • Have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite
  • Ability to pass a basic telecommunication knowledge test
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications
  • Strong communications, time management, and organization skills
  • Consistently report to work on time and maintain a safe work environment

Physical Abilities

  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time
  • Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis

  • Active Security Clearance
  • Valid Passport and willingness to travel overseas
  • BICSI credentials, including Technician
  • Manufacture Certifications and/or Fiber Certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
