Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Coordinator III to join our team at St. Mary's County. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and supervising complex department-specific programs, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement large and complex department-specific programs, including aquatics facilities, health and wellness initiatives, and special events.
  2. Monitor compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to specific programs.
  3. Monitor the performance of assigned staff relative to the program.
  4. Prepare relevant correspondence and reports.
  5. Liaise with local, regional, and state organizations related to the program.
  6. Perform fiscal planning and management for the assigned program and monitor grant allocations.
  7. Responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of two (2) aquatics facilities, featuring both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, health and wellness initiatives, and programming, various special events in the County.
  8. Must determine program needs, plan, recruit, hire, and train staff to instruct or direct the programs, and ensure that programs are self-supporting.
  9. Promotes and publicizes programs, coordinates and schedules facilities, and develops a financial accountability system.
  10. Coordinates approximately 75 to 100 youth and adult recreation classes, programs, activities, and special events annually.
Departmental Functions
  1. Responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of two (2) aquatics facilities, featuring both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, health and wellness initiatives, and programming, various special events focused on wellness engagement.
  2. Must determine program needs, plan, recruit, hire, and train staff to instruct or direct the programs, and ensure that programs are self-supporting.
  3. Promotes and publicizes programs, coordinates and schedules facilities, and develops a financial accountability system.
  4. Coordinates approximately 75 to 100 youth and adult classes, programs, activities, and special events annually.
  5. Responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of a wide variety of aquatics, fitness, and wellness classes and programs.
  6. Provides direct leadership for hourly staff, including recruiting, hiring, and training of part-time employees and volunteers.
  7. Responsible for current and future program planning, implementation, managing, and coordinating facility operations for the Great Mills Swimming Pool and the Wellness and Aquatics Center.
  8. Responsible for current and future program planning, implementation, managing, and coordinating of various special events as assigned by the recreation division manager.
  9. Provides support to other coordinators for special events and other department functions as necessary.
  10. Promotes and represents the department at public functions, through program delivery, and through fundraising; ensures that programs meet State of Maryland health and safety regulations, Red Cross, and other aquatics management certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures.
  2. Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public.
  3. Expert knowledge of department practices and procedures and of the practices, procedures, and concepts of the assigned programs.
  4. Knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations relative to the operations of specific projects and programs.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members.
  6. Ability to effectively monitor staff performance.
  7. Ability to develop, implement, prioritize, and coordinate program-related activities.
  8. Ability to use available resources to research information.
  9. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  10. Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software.
Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Five years or more of related experience.
  3. Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Work requires light physical effort in the handling of light materials or boxes and tools or equipment in non-strenuous work positions up to 30 pounds and/or continual standing or walking of 60%/+ of the time.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, and training rooms.
