Job Summary:
The Quality Assurance Specialist at Thorlabs plays a pivotal role in driving quality across production and service departments. As part of our team, you will focus on teaching quality techniques, identifying issues, solving problems, and promoting quality excellence. This position may occasionally require working at Thorlabs locations beyond Newton, NJ.

About the Role:
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing requires manual lifting and bending or standing as necessary. You will work closely with production and engineering managers to establish inspection criteria and promote quality awareness throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the Quality System, ensuring its effectiveness and compliance.
  • Analyze quality trend data, prepare QA reports, and implement corrective actions for process-related concerns and customer complaints.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering managers to establish inspection criteria and promote quality awareness throughout the organization.
  • Lead continual improvement initiatives, such as 5S, Kaizen, and lean methods, to enhance the quality system.
  • Train and support production personnel in quality awareness and improvement efforts.
  • Work closely with RMA and Service departments to inspect and dispose of customer returns and other items.
  • Conduct audits, create reports, and implement corrective actions to maintain quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including quality manuals, procedures, and inspection templates.
  • Evaluate RFQs and Purchase Orders for quality clauses and requirements.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position.
  • BS from an accredited college or university.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft products like Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience with quality in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement tools and techniques (Lean, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis).
  • Strong team player with high attention to detail.
  • Experience with standard measurement equipment.

Compensation:
$75,000 - $90,000 per year.
