The University of Iowa seeks an experienced Clinical Surgeon Specialist to join its team. As a key member of the Department of Surgery's Gastrointestinal Surgery division, this role provides comprehensive care to patients in the Colorectal Surgery clinic.

Job Summary

This position involves working as an independent healthcare provider, providing high-quality patient care and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective treatment plans. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in clinical expertise, particularly in caring for patients with acute and chronic illnesses related to Colorectal Surgery.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative evaluations to identify potential risk factors and optimize patient care
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including admissions, pre- and post-operative management, and referrals
  • Write accurate and concise history and physical notes for billing purposes
  • Perform procedures such as anoscopy, incision and drainage of abscesses, and sharp wound debridement, subject to privileging process
  • Educate patients, families, residents, medical students, and nursing staff on treatment plans
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold registration and licensure in accordance with the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners, including graduation from an accredited PA program and certification by the NCCPA
  • Possess an active DEA license or be able to obtain one prior to hire
  • Hold current BLS certification

  • Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, specifically in Colorectal Surgery
  • Ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment, managing complex patient cases
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capacity to prioritize workflow effectively
  • Willingness to learn and assist with Colorectal Surgery procedures and management

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000-$180,000 per year, depending on experience.
