Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Powell County Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our team. As a member of our special education department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality education to students with visual impairments.

Job Summary:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments. This includes creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement IEPs for students with visual impairments
  • Provide instruction and support to students in a variety of settings, including classrooms and resource rooms
  • Collaborate with other educators, related service providers, and parents to ensure comprehensive support for students
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in special education and visual impairment support
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education (VI) or related field
  • Valid Kentucky Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certificate
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced educational environment
Working Conditions:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and other educational environments. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light to heavy weights, as well as assist students with self-care activities.

Evaluation and Professional Growth:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will be evaluated annually on job performance and professional growth. Regular feedback and coaching will be provided to support ongoing development and improvement.
