Special Education Teacher for Visually Impaired Students

**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher for Visually Impaired Students to join our team at Powell County Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing educational services to students with visual impairments, promoting their intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth, and helping them become productive citizens.
Key Responsibilities:- Teaching and Instruction: Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, developing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Classroom Management: Arrive to work at the assigned hour and do not leave before the assigned time, communicating effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.
- Student Progress Evaluation: Evaluate student progress on a regular basis, diagnosing the learning needs of each student, and prescribing individual IEPs to meet those needs.
- Collaboration and Communication: Act as a resource person with other teachers and parents to promote understanding of special education student needs, and to provide assistance in working with disabled students.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Keep proper documentation, including due process and procedures, and assimilate and apply suggestions from related service personnel.
- Student Safety and Well-being: Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, and assist students with self-care, including diapering, toileting, bathing, dressing, and etc.
- Professional Development: Attend and participate in faculty meetings, and establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
- Medication Administration and Health Services: Perform administration of medication and other health services, as instructed by a health professional.
- Attendance and Punctuality: Regular and punctual attendance, and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (VI), and valid Kentucky Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certificate.
- Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of special education due process, current student information system, current research for the purpose of competent identification of special education students, and a variety of instructional techniques. Ability to practically apply instructional techniques in the class setting, work cooperatively as an interdisciplinary team member, communicate effectively both in writing and orally, and complete all student due process paperwork.
- Physical Demands: Work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking, requiring the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing, and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
