Position Title: Security Officer

Compensation:
Hourly wage range: $28.93 per hour. Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Overview:
This role operates under limited supervision and is tasked with ensuring the safety of all personnel, visitors, contractors, and guests, while safeguarding the property and assets of The Jackson Laboratory.

  • Oversee staffing and monitoring at designated posts and the Security Operation Center, while conducting patrol rounds as required.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed, providing assistance and support.
  • Security Services operates 24/7 at The Jackson Laboratory, with shift hours that may include day, evening, overnight, and weekend/holiday hours as necessary.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
  • Promptly respond to various emergencies on foot and, if necessary, by vehicle, offering aid to employees, visitors, contractors, and guests. Assist emergency responders as required.
  • Utilize the Emergency Mass Notification system when necessary.
  • Conduct security operations across the campus, monitoring security systems, alarms, telephones, and radios.
  • Address requests for assistance, including door unlocks, escorts, security system overrides, and granting access permissions on security systems.
  • Prepare detailed logs, reports, and email communications using computers and software programs. Serve as a switchboard operator if required. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in security is preferred.
  • Ability to read and record security control systems and alert personnel/management of critical or unusual situations.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills for effective information exchange.
  • Ability to remain composed during emergencies and critical events, with skills to multi-task and perform under pressure.
  • Judgment and decision-making skills necessary to execute all required security procedures independently.
  • Demonstrated team player with a professional, positive attitude and flexibility.
  • Regular, reliable, and consistent attendance in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Certification/Licenses:
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Valid California BSIS Guard Card License.
  • CPR/First Aid & AED certification.
  • Education Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience Required: None required.
  • Experience Preferred: Private/Corporate Security Experience or Law Enforcement Experience.
