About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Advisor - Land Resources to join our team at Rio Tinto Kennecott. As a key member of our Environment Team, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and coordination of land management objectives across our properties.

Your primary responsibility will be to implement strategies to mitigate risk and generate value through our land resources. This will involve managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver those strategies and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Protecting land and mineral rights
  • Supporting biodiversity studies and action plans
  • Conducting research and diligence work on third-party property rights matters
  • Mitigating risks to the business and community related to land resources and ecosystem services
  • Guiding and executing land use and buffer strategies
  • Managing and implementing land lease and partnership strategies to create shared value
  • Coordinating with lessees to influence best practices and ensure compliance
  • Identifying, negotiating, implementing, and maintaining agreements, commitments, and/or multi-stakeholder partnerships
  • Supporting Clean Water Act Section 404 (wetland) permitting and compliance
  • Applying health, safety, environment, and community best practices to work activities

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of applied professional experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to establish collaborative relationships to solicit, negotiate, and implement partnerships that minimize risk and create shared value
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex challenges
  • The ability to prioritize workload and balance the support of multiple matters with reduced resources
  • Knowledge from a broad range of disciplines
  • Strong verbal and written communication, developing trusting relationships, organization, and adaptability
  • Experience with property records, land agreements, environmental data, environmental regulations, range management, agriculture, and geographic information systems is preferred but not required
