This is a challenging opportunity to join the City of El Segundo's Public Works Department as a Water Meter Technician. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to our water utility customers, ensuring accurate and efficient meter reading, and performing routine repairs and maintenance on our water meter systems.
Key Responsibilities- Read water meters on assigned routes, accurately recording consumption and identifying any issues or problems.
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance on water meters, including replacing damaged or defective meters, and repairing or rebuilding meter boxes and water lines.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints, providing timely and effective solutions to their concerns.
- Deliver shut-off notices and respond to related inquiries, ensuring compliance with City regulations and policies.
- Collect water samples for bacteria, turbidity, and physical quality, following established procedures.
- High school graduation or equivalent, with a combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
- One year of experience in construction and/or general maintenance work at a comparable level of responsibility, with a focus on public contact.
- Valid California driver's license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated.
- California Department of Health Services Grade II Water Distribution Operator Certification.
- Regularly exposed to weather conditions.
- Regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
