Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archaeological Field Technician to join our team at EMH&T. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects that require compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and will be responsible for conducting Phase I archaeological surveys, including pedestrian surveys, shovel test pit excavations, site recording, and data collection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Phase I fieldwork, including shovel testing and surface collection, as part of a team
  • Record data in the field and report results to the field director
  • Accurately record archaeological data, including site forms, field notes, and GPS data collection
  • Assist in the identification and preliminary analysis of cultural artifacts and features
  • Work collaboratively with the field team and communicate effectively with the team and supervisor regarding the field conditions and findings
Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a closely related field
  • Completed 'field school' and prior fieldwork experience, preferably in the Ohio Valley region
  • Familiarity with both prehistoric and historic artifact identification
  • Ability to tolerate outdoor weather conditions and be exposed to outdoor insects, poisonous plants, and allergens for extended periods of time
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time and maneuver over rough terrain, ditches, steep banks, and uneven ground
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. of equipment/materials while walking across terrain
