We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at Southern Company. As a key member of our Design Civil Transmission division, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing new or existing substation structures and foundations, as well as transmission line foundations and structures.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and analyze substation structures and foundations to meet schedule and budget requirements.
  • Provide work direction and oversight for designers and drafters.
  • Serve as the civil structural representative on solution teams and prepare preliminary designs as required.
  • Support Generations effort on specialized structural projects.
  • May serve as a company representative on industry committees.
  • Manage and work with structural designers and detailers to provide fabrication quality steel and concrete drawings.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of design experience in industrial engineering and/or commercial structural engineering.
  • Experience analyzing steel connections.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficient with MathCAD and STAAD Pro.
  • Working knowledge with ANSYS.
  • Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ACI codes.
  • Design experience in transmission structures is a plus, but not required.
  • Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software applications.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to build working relationships with peers, internal customers and the general public.
  • Time management skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to satisfactorily complete project documentation and to function effectively in a team environment.
