Job SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor, the Public Safety Officer will work to maintain a secure and safe environment for faculty, staff, patients, visitors, and property. Duties will include communication functions of the Public Safety Department, rotation and receipt of all emergency and non-emergency incoming calls to the dispatch center, soliciting descriptive information to determine the nature and urgency of the request and the location and scope of the incident.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise the work of public safety coordinators by assigning work, observing, and reviewing performance.
- Recommend discipline of public safety coordinators through the chain of command and participate in hiring public safety coordinators.
- Evaluate public safety coordinators, including evaluation of the quality and quantity of their work performance and scheduling of daily assignments.
- Perform the communications dispatch function for UC Medicine Public Safety.
- Monitor the closed-circuit television cameras.
- Assign incident report numbers to public safety personnel from the Continuum Incident Report System.
- Monitor UC Medicine alarm systems and submit reports when required.
- Direct and coordinate the public safety response to calls for service and alarms.
- Maintain radio contact with public safety personnel to ensure their safety.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Three to five years of experience in security or law enforcement required.
- Ability to complete IAHSS Certification Training Program within 90 days of employment.
- Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC), as defined in the Private Detective, Security, and Private Alarm Act.
- Valid Driver's License.
- College preferred.
- At least one year in healthcare.
