Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance Management:
Ensure that all transportation activities align with federal, state, and local laws.

Maintain comprehensive records related to the organization's transportation operations. Monitor adherence to all relevant transportation and OSHA safety regulations.

Stay informed about emerging safety regulations and practices, updating company policies and procedures as necessary.

Engage with external agencies and stakeholders to guarantee compliance with safety standards.

Support the management of driver recruitment and training systems.

Conduct daily reviews and corrective actions related to hours of service, unidentified driving, and ELD compliance.

Safety Initiatives:
Assist in the development and implementation of safety programs aimed at minimizing fleet accidents, environmental incidents, property damage, and injuries.

Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and safety concerns.

Facilitate training for employees at all levels on safety protocols and regulations. Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop preventive strategies.

Vendor Oversight:
Manage relationships with vendors that support the organization's DOT compliance initiatives.

Negotiate contracts with vendors and conduct regular performance reviews.

Oversee departmental budget and vendor expenditures, implementing cost-saving measures as appropriate.

Risk Assessment:
Monitor driver performance metrics and conduct risk assessments with Fleet Supervisors. Compile data and provide trend analysis to Operations leadership on an ongoing basis.

Additional Responsibilities:
Lead the DOT Compliance Administration team.

Contribute to budgetary decisions and their implications.

Interpret and implement policies for various departments/projects.

Recommend and execute new policies or modifications to existing ones.

Provide general guidelines and frameworks for staff operations.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Transportation, Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a compliance or safety role within a fleet of over 100 vehicles.

At least 2 years of experience in audit and compliance with a focus on FMCSR standards.

Proven ability to lead and coordinate multiple fleet projects while managing competing priorities and deadlines.

Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time (both in-state and out-of-state).

Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to develop responses and action plans for USDOT interventions and safety audits as required.

Proficient in conducting thorough due diligence and research on incidents involving legal counsel in support of the organization during legal proceedings.

Excellent public speaking skills, capable of addressing groups of team members and stakeholders.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification / Licensure:
Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) – preferred but not mandatory.

Certified Director of Safety (CDS) – preferred but not mandatory.
